How to Stretch Canvas
I'm starting this page and will update with photos
when I stretch another canvas, which will be soon
On this page is a video of a canvas I
stretched with the Floor Cloth and you can
hear how it sounds like a drum when
finished.
Also I'll be showing how I modify the older
stretcher bars to have the qualities of a
Heavy Duty stretcher bar.
I like to use what is called "Floor Cloth". It's
rather stiff and durable. The thing I like
about it, is that it doesn't tear when I stretch
my canvas tight. I try to get the canvas to
sound like a drum. Another plus is what I
discovered by accident. I dropped a
painting about 3 1/2 Feet on the edge of a
1x2" board and all that happened was a
minor poked area which easily came out by
gently pushing it back into place. A lighter
weight canvas would probably have torn,
and I'm not a big fan of seeing a finished
painting damaged.
Be patient, the video takes a few
moments to load. I'm working on
correcting this-Thanks, Steve
